Former Mayo County councillor Jimmy Glacken, of Carracrum, Bonniconlon, has passed away.
He was co-opted on to Mayo County Council and served as a Fianna Fáil councillor from 1987 to 1991. He was known as a voice for his community, the farming community and rural Ireland.
Mayo TD Dara Calleary paid tribute to the late Jimmy Glacken.
“The communities of Bofield, Bonniconlon and Ballina are today mourning the sad loss of former Mayo County Councillor Jimmy Glacken RIP.
A kind and courteous man, Jimmy served his community as Councillor from 1987 to 1991 with great distinction and his loss will be sorely felt among his family, neighbours, friends and the wider community. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam dilis.”
His remains will be reposing at Gallagher’s Funeral Home, Bonniconlon, on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Removal from his residence on Friday morning to the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Bonniconlon, to arrive for Requiem Mass at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Bonniconlon Cemetery.
