Concerns have been raised over the Charlestown Library which has been closed for a number of months now.

Cllr Gerry Murray raised the issue at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting yesterday, as he said many people in the town have come to him looking for answers.

Cllr Murray said that the library has been closed since the Covid-19 pandemic began and the woman who was running it has transferred to Castlebar Library, and her position is yet to be filled. He is asking that Mayo County Council go about filling the position to bring back a great service for the town.

Cllr John Caulfield agreed and said the Charlestown Library is a great library and it is a brilliant service to the people of Charlestown.

Padraic Flanagan, the head of the municipal district, said that it is beyond their control but he will alert the county librarian to the issue.

Joanne Grehan, Director of Services of the Mayo County Council, said they are currently looking into the situation and hope to have it resolved soon.
