Some local sporting history was made this week with the staging of the first games inside the world’s largest sports air dome at the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan.

The Dome had been previously used for training sessions, such as last weekend prior to the Mayo Club Championship games that were held outdoors, but Tuesday afternoon marked the first time it had been used for a game. The Mayo U16 team beat Donegal on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-14 in the Gerry Reilly Cup.

Later that evening, more history was made when the Claremorris Ladies played the Neale Ladies in the Division 1 Feile Final, in what was the first LGFA game played inside the Dome at the Connacht CoE. Claremorris were crowned champions on a scoreline of 5-9 to 0-6.
