Mayo homeowners affected by pyrite-contaminated blocks staged demonstration home of Noel O’Boyle from Crossmolina (F26 RY91), which is badly affected by pyrite and has been approved for demolition.

The event was organised by the North Mayo Pyrite Group to increase awareness of the huge number of homes affected by pyrite in Mayo and the lack of rental accommodation in the county as well as highlighting the negative impact this is having on the mental health of the families concerned.

Noel’s garden was covered with toy/cardboard houses to represent the number of homes in Mayo impacted and the fact that there is nowhere for these families to go.

Families impacted by pyrite contamination remain under severe and increasing stress pending the outcome of the review of the Defective Concrete Blocks Scheme.
