The death has occurred of Cyril Gibbons, Kilkelly.

Cyril was a longstanding member of the Ballinrobe Races Committee for over 20 years and worked for Harrington Concrete and Quarries in Kilkelly for nearly four decades.

Cyril was a member of An Garda Síochána in his early days, and left to set up his own sand and gravelling company called Gibbons Concrete, until he joined Frank Harrington in the late 1990s. There he worked successfully with Harrington Concrete and Quarries full-time until 2017, and part-time until his death.

Cyril was a member of the Ballinrobe Races Committee for over 20 years, and they took to their Twitter account to pay tribute to him.

“Ballinrobe Racecourse would like to extend our sympathies to the Gibbons family on the death of Cyril Gibbons. Cyril was a long standing member of Ballinrobe Race Committee and contributed to the success that we are today. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

He died peacefully at UCH. Predeceased by his parents John and Margaret, Belcarra and his sister Sally. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary, sons John, Michael, Harris, Marc, Carl and Alex, brother Bernard and sister Pat (Fitzmaurice), grandchildren, daughters in law, nieces, nephews, neighbours, relatives and many friends.

Reposing at The Marian Funeral Home, Knock on Thursday, 14 October, from 4pm until 7pm, with funeral arriving to St. Celsus Church, Kilkelly on Friday, 15th October, for Mass at 12 o’clock.

There will be a guard of honour in the town of Kilkelly at 7.20pm this evening.
