Luke McNicholas has been called up to the Ireland U21 squad for next week’s European Championship qualifier with Montenegro.

The Belcarra native who played underage football with Manulla is currently on loan at Northern Irish side Cliftonville from Sligo Rovers.

The talented young keeper had a spell in the Sligo first team following an injury to the first-choice keeper. He subsequently went out on loan to Cliftonville in pursuit of further first-team opportunities.

He is joined in the squad by Cliftonville teammate Luke Turner.

Meanwhile, Westport natives Conor Walsh and Daniel Kelly are currently playing with the Ireland U17 squad.

This evening, they will take on Andorra in Turner’s Cross at 7pm. On Sunday and Wednesday, they will play North Macedonia and Poland; both games are also taking place in Turner’s Cross.
