Former Mayo forward and 2017 Footballer of the Year Andy Moran has been officially confirmed as the new manager of the Leitrim senior football team.
A statement from Leitrim GAA this morning confirmed the appointment, which had been widely speculated upon in GAA circles in recent weeks.
It has also been confirmed that Mike Solan, Moran’s Ballaghaderreeen clubmate and manager of the Mayo under-21 team that won the All-Ireland in 2016, will join Moran as part of his backroom team. The ticket will be completed by former Leitrim players Barry McWeeney and James Glancy, with whom Moran won a Sigerson Cup while playing for Sligo IT in 2005.
Moran and Solan are currently serving as joint managers of the Ballaghaderreen senior team (Moran in a player-coach role). Ballagh’ have a do-or-die Mayo SFC Round 3 clash with Castlebar Mitchels in Aghamore next Friday night.
Moran previously served as a selector with the Mayo under-20s under Solan in 2020.
Moran has been appointed on a two-year term for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
