Reports this morning suggest former Mayo footballer Andy Moran is set to be named as the new manager of the Leitrim senior footballers.
According to the Irish Independent, Ballaghaderreen clubman Moran will be ratified by the Leitrim County Board tomorrow evening (Saturday), succeeding Terry Hyland in the position.
Moran is currently serving as joint-manager of the Ballaghaderreen senior footballers alongside Michael Solan. They face into a do-or-die Mayo senior championship clash at home to Balla tomorrow afternoon (4m) in which Moran is also expected to line out at full-forward.
It is understood that Solan, who previously managed the Mayo under-21s to the All-Ireland title in 2016, will form part of Moran’s backroom team in Leitrim, with a number of local selectors also expected to be on the ticket. Moran served as a selector with the Mayo under-20s under Solan in 2020 after retiring from inter-county football at the end of the 2019 season.
Moran had been linked with the vacant senior manager’s role with Longford in recent weeks but now seems posied to make take his first steps into senior inter-county management with Leitrim.
