Mayo has been given a boost during this current housing shortage with the announcement of twenty new Social Houses to be constructed in the Achill area.

The units will be located at Polranny, Achill Sound and approval for their development has now been issued to Mayo County Council by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

The units that will be constructed are 4 x3 beds, 12 x2 beds and 4 x1 beds. The development will meet a number of housing requirements in the Achill area.

The news was welcomed by TD for Mayo Dara Calleary this morning.

“I want to thank and congratulate Cllr Paul McNamara and Mayo County Council officials for advocating this scheme and for working with me to get Department approval over the line.”

“There is a shortage of housing, both private and social, in the county, and this development will help alleviate the waiting list for housing in the West Mayo area.”

“I am continuing to work closely with the local authority, local councillors and the Department to secure other much needed housing developments for #Mayo.”
