The Linenhall Arts Centre is celebrating Culture Night with a twist this year, as they invite audiences to join them on walks around the beautiful surrounds of Lough Lannagh, Castlebar on Friday, September 17.

Walk ‘n’ Talk Arts and Creativity at Lough Lannagh will be led by five Mayo artists as they stroll around the lake with members of the public, inspiring conversations centred on art, creativity, culture, the locality and more! 

Booking in advance is essential as limited spaces are filling up fast. The event is free and open to everyone – from children to older people as it encourages the community to engage, and participate freely in cultural life and the arts. Participating artists are harpist Freda Nic Giolla Chatháin, visual artist Tracy Sweeney, theatre maker and visual artist Elaine Mears, visual artist Conor O’Grady and illustrator, Melanie Whelan. Freda Nic Giolla Chatháin will host her amble ‘as gaeilge’ for Irish language enthusiasts.

In events news at the arts centre, Linenhall’s new programme commences on Saturday, September 4 with a sold-out performance by Iarla Ó Lionáird, Una Monaghan and Kevin Murphy. Creative folk musicians Tara Breen, Pádraig Rynne and Jim Murray take to the stage for a night to remember on September 16, with classical crossover string quartet, The ConTempo Quartet set to dazzle audiences on September 22. 

A Wilde Fan heralds the first live theatre production to grace the Linenhall stage in 18 months. From actor and playwright Myles Breen, it is a celebration of the poet, playwright and novelist Oscar Wilde which promises to be an exceptional treat for theatre lovers, on September 29. 

The ever-popular Linenhall Film Club is back with an exciting line-up from across the globe to excite, engage and entertain audiences this autumn. New to the programme are documentaries, a genre that garnered some popularity in the locality in early 2020. Film Club attendees can rest assured that regular bi-weekly screenings will resume, as usual every second Tuesday, with the art house cinema that film fans have come to love from the Linenhall.  Mesmerising documentary, Amazing Grace, kicks things off on Tuesday, September 7 followed swiftly by the acclaimed and moving, After Love, starring actress Joanna Scanlan.
