Rachel Kearns has signed for women’s AFL club Geelong.

The Mayo ladies footballer and Galway WFC striker has agreed a one-year contract with the Cats and becomes the 14th Irish player in the league for the 2022 campaign.

Geelong’s first Irish AFLW player, Kearns has an elite sporting background, skilled in Gaelic football, soccer and boxing.

The 24-year-old was an LGFA All-Star full forward in 2019, a member of the Republic of Ireland under-19 soccer squad and has been awarded two All-Ireland boxing medals.

As a striker with Galway WFC team, Kearns was recently awarded player of the month in the Women’s National League.

Geelong’s Head of AFLW Brett Johnson congratulated Rachel on the move.

“Rachel is an experienced athlete, her list of achievements speak for themselves.

“She is well suited to the physicality of AFLW and we see her making a strong contribution.”
