Mayo archaeological projects will receive a total of €66,172 under the Community Monuments Scheme 2021.
The core objective of the fund is to support the conservation, maintenance, protection and promotion of local monuments and historic sites.
The four projects approved in Mayo are: Kill Abbey – €37,807; Knockatemple Ecclesiastical Site – €6,888; Kilgeever Abbey – €11,685; Kil
movee Heritage Trail – €9,792.
“I am delighted with this funding for Mayo which will enable conservation works to be carried out on archaeological monuments which are deemed to be significant. The funding will also encourage access and help toward making our archaeological monuments able to withstand the effects of climate change,” said Fine Gael TD Michael Ring, following the announcement.
