Up to 53 oxygen concentrators should be in place and operating in one of India’s worst Covid-19 hotspots by the end of this week thanks to the generosity of the people of Ballina.

The life-saving supplies have been sourced and supplied thanks to the local Hollister facility.

The Foxford Road-based plant works closely with a sister factory in Bawal which is close to the Indian city of Delhi.

When news of the latest serious wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India reached Hollister’s Ballina employees they immediately reached out to their Bawal colleagues.

One of the collection boxes used by Hollister staff to raise funds for medical supplies for Indian hospitals that are struggling to deal with the latest wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many of them had been personally affected by the virus and advised that the country needs medical supplies more than money as local hospitals were having to turn Covid-19 patients away due to a lack of life-saving oxygen.

The Ballina associates duly established the Hollister Associates Medical Supplies for India campaign on the online fundraising platform, www.gofundme.com and in just a few short weeks raised over €22,500 thanks to the generosity of staff, the Ballina community and donors from all over the world.

Associates in the US then assisted Hollister staff in Ballina to source and get an excellent deal on much-sought after oxygen concentrators which should all be in place in Bawal’s two local hospitals by the end of this week.

David Hannon, Research and Development Manager at Hollister, Ballina, said the campaign coordinators are extremely grateful to staff members and the people of Ballina and beyond for supporting the fundraiser so generously.
