Two men sustained serious injuries in separate assaults in Ballina over the weekend, writes Marian Duggan.
On Easter Saturday a 19-year-old man was taken to Mayo General Hospital by ambulance after he was injured in Greenhills Estate shortly before midnight. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Another male, aged 19, was arrested in relation to the assault and taken to Ballina Garda Station for questioning. He was charged, released on bail, and will appear before the local district court.
The previous night gardaí were notified of an incident in the Convent Hill area of the town when a man presented himself at Ballina District Hospital with injuries.
It’s understood the 21-year-old sustained his wounds, which are not life-threatening, in a fracas. He was taken to Mayo University Hospital by ambulance and received treatment there.
Investigating gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry on the matter.
