A collaborative community effort has led to the production of a nostalgic and poignant video which has just been launched as a tribute to one Mayo town, its people and diaspora.

A teaser of the brilliant St Patrick’s Day video was released on social media last night and the full version has just gone live online (see below).

It has been created by the Ballina Community Clean Up Group in collaboration with the Jackie Clarke Collection and Mayo North Tourism to celebrate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day in the virtual world and was released at 3pm to mark what would traditionally be the start of the north Mayo capital’s annual St Patrick’s Day parade

The short film features footage and photography from past parades in the town and makes for poignant viewing given the year that has been and the requirement to cancel Ballina’s annual parade for the second year in a row due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The St Patrick’s Day video has been created against the odds as its creators have had to operate within the current restrictive public health guidelines.
Nevertheless they were determined to pull out all the stops as a heart-felt salute to the town and its people on St. Patrick’s Day 2021.
They even achieved the incredible feat of illuminating some of the area’s most famous landmarks in green light and footage of them is featured in the film.
It is hoped that the gesture will be well received by Ballina people and the town’s diaspora around the world in particular who are all wished a very happy St Patrick’s Day by the Ballina Community Clean Up Group, the Jackie Clarke Collection and Mayo North Tourism.
Sláinte everyone!
