A vaccination centre for the Erris region is being considered.
Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary submitted a parliamentary question asking the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly if he has given consideration to the travel and public transport difficulties associated with accessing the sole planned Covid-19 vaccinated centre in Mayo and if other vaccination centres will be established.
The Saolta University Health Care Group responded that nine vaccination centres (including one at Breaffy House Resort) are being set up in the HSE West area. They said that in addition to these centres, they are conscious of the needs of people living in more remote locations of Mayo.
“We will be flexible to make sure that everyone can get this vaccine as quickly and efficiently as possible,” said Ann Cosgrove, Chief Operations Officer for the Saolta Group.
Deputy Calleary said while the HSE has told him in discussions that they are aware there ‘is a gap there’, they have not outlined the logistical challenges in running such a centre and how it would be staffed.
“I welcome the fact they are looking at it but we need to get more formal arrangements in place,” he said.
