Mayo Co Council is about to seek expressions of interest for the operation of the county’s first aqua park.
The council is seeking proposals from adventure/outdoor pursuit companies that have the capacity to operate a high quality adventure offering/service on the shores of Lough Conn.
It is proposed to have the aqua park in place for a three to four month period during summer 2021 – subject to Covid-19 restrictions.
The exciting attraction is being pursued by the local authority in conjunction with the Crossmolina Vision 2025 Group which is dedicated to planning and shaping the future of that north Mayo town.
Local Cllr Michael Loftus is involved in the plans.
He told the Western People that the plan is inspired by existing amenities like the Blueway Waterpark in Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim or Hodson Bay Watersports near Athlone with attractions including various water sports and an inflatable obstacle course complex.
Cllr Loftus welcomed the fact that that the council is proceeding to seek formal expressions of interest for the proposed aqua park amenity and thanked all those involved.
“With the fact that domestic tourism is expected to be so big this summer we feel this is the ideal time to look for an aqua park operator.,” Cllr Loftus explained, stressing that the idea has been passed with all of the relevant stakeholders including Inland Fisheries Ireland, Mayo Co Council and the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
