The HSE has refused to confirm a Covid-19 outbreak in Swinford District Hospital despite locals insisting that a number of cases have been confirmed in the facility.
A HSE spokesperson said they “can’t comment on individual cases or outbreaks of Covid-19 in order to protect people’s privacy”.
However, she confirmed the health body is continuing to work with facilities where there are outbreaks to ensure that the necessary supports are put in place to manage an outbreak.
In the first two weeks of February, there have been 62 Covid-19 cases in the Swinford Local Electoral Area which takes in Swinford town, Foxford, Kilkelly, Charlestown and Kiltimagh.
In fact, the electoral area had the highest Covid-19 infection rate in the county from February 2 to 15. The disease was spreading much faster in the East Mayo area with an incidence rate of 358.7 per 100,000 population.
