Swinford AC’s Michaela Walsh added to her ever-lengthening list of titles by winning the women’s 4kg shot put at the Elite Micro Meet held at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown on Saturday.

In what was the first major Irish athletics meet of the year, athletes were competing to earn qualification for the European Indoor Championships as well as world ranking points for those athletes still pursuing qualification for the Tokyo Olympics.

Swinford’s Walsh was the clear winner of the shot put event, with her winning throw of 15.7metres a full metre clear of the second-placed throw of Inny Valley’s Casey Mulvey, who threw for 14.69m. Kate O’Connor from Dundalk took bronze and Emerald’s Ciara Sheehy was fourth.
