Mayo Co Council is making plans to celebrate the feast day of Ireland’s patron saint virtually.
With the country likely to remain under some form of lockdown for the next month or two it is assumed that public events, including parades, will not be permitted for St Patrick’s Day, 2021.
Mayo Co Council has revealed preliminary details of an alternative celebration of the occasion on its website.
The planned Virtual St Patrick’s Day 2021 is described as “an initiative to create meaningful connections to celebrate Ireland’s national day, offering a joyous and uplifting celebration of Ireland’s contemporary culture and traditional heritage.”
The council is planning to establish a virtual hub for the occasion that can be used to share what it means to be Irish and where the diaspora can connect with its Mayo roots.
“While we cannot gather on the streets for the St Patrick’s parades around Mayo, we invite you to join us through music, films, memories from past St. Patrick’s Day parades and much more,” the website states.
