The news from Elverys is a timely boost for Mayo’s county town of Castlebar.

Intersport Elverys has been given the green light to develop and extend its Castlebar warehouse and distribution facility.

The sports retailer, which sponsors the county’s senior Gaelic football side and holds the naming rights to MacHale Park, was granted planning permission for the development by Mayo Co Council.

The project will see the company’s Moneenbradagh base increase in size by almost 5,000 square metres. The development will be constructed in two phases with offices, a reception, a gym, creche, changing rooms, and additional parking included in the plans.

The decision has gone down well in the county town where Elverys has a flagship store on Bridge Street.

“This is great news for Castlebar,” said local Fine Gael councillor Ger Deere. “This is a vote of confidence in Castlebar after a very challenging year for the retail and commercial sectors. It’s a timely boost and I wish Intersport Elverys every success with their investment plans.”
