There is a flurry of interest to see who will become the next manager of the Tyrone senior football team after confirmation on Friday evening that Mickey Harte has stood down after 18 years on the sideline.

Among the names mentioned as a potential replacement for the three-time All-Ireland senior winner is a man who guided Mayo to a one-point victory over Tyrone in the 2016 All-Ireland SFC. Stephen Rochford is no stranger to Ulster football as he is currently coach to the Donegal senior football team, a role he took on directly after his three-year stint as Mayo boss came to an end in 2018.

Rochford guided Mayo to back to back All-Ireland finals in 2016 and ’17  and BoyleSports have listed the Crossmolina native as a 33/1 outsider to replace Harte.

Stephen Rochford has been listed as a 33/1 shot to replace Mickey Harte as the next manager of Tyrone.

It was rumoured earlier in the week that Harte had been denied a one-year extension to his tenure but confirmation that he was standing down has triggered a flurry of speculation as to his successor.

Fergal Logan was already chalked up as the 11/10 favourite before the post was even available, but is now an odds-on 1/4 shot with BoyleSports as the county board look set to invite nominations for the job.

Collie Holmes, who oversaw Tyrone’s under-17 All-Ireland win in 2017, is another contender at 6/1, while Jim McGuinness was one of the early outsiders to be backed for the role as he closed into 16/1 from 50/1.
