Enabling works are presently being carried out in conjunction with the ESB to allow the proposed development of a new school at Culleens in Ballina to proceed to tender stage 3, according to local FF TD Dara Calleary.

The Minister for Education has informed Deputy Calleary that the major building project is currently at an advanced stage of architectural planning focused on detailed design.

This phase will involve securing planning permission as well as fire and disability access certificates and the preparation of tender documents.

Deputy Calleary said a final review of the tender documentation is currently being carried out and that the design team has completed the pre-qualification process for shortlisting building contractors.

An enabling works process must now be completed in conjunction with the ESB prior to progressing to Tender Stage 3, the Deputy explained.

“I want to assure the Board of Management, staff, pupils and parents of Culleens National School that I will continue to liaise with the Building Unit of the Department and the Minister to drive the project forward towards commencement,” he concluded.
