Two Mayo villages have been added to Government’s National Broadband Plan roll-out.

Killasser, outside Swinford and Taugheen, near Claremorris, are to receive Broadband Connection Points under the Connected Communities initiative.

Other sites included in the BCP plan include Islandeady; Bofeenaun, Pollawarla; Belderrig; Keel; Kilmovee, Cushlough, Carrowkennedy; and Finny.

The news has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon.

“Four of the aforementioned sites will be scheduled for installation later this month. They will provide communities in rural Mayo with free high-speed internet access at publicly-accessible sites under the Government’s new Connected Communities initiative. Town & Village funding to support the BCPs is currently being used to procure office furniture, public health guidelines equipment for Covid-19 and other resources,” said Deputy Dillon.
