The 19-year-old man who died in a road traffic accident outside Ballyhaunis last night has been named as Jason Killeen.
The youngster, who hails from Eden, Knock, was the passenger in a car that struck a tree on the Ballyhaunis to Ballinlough Road shortly before 11pm.
He is the son of Packie and Lorraine Killeen.
The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to Mayo University Hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be serious.
The N60 remains closed as forensic collision investigators carry out their work at the scene.
Meanwhile, a family liaison officer is communicating with the deceased’s family.
Investigating gardaí have set up an incident room at Claremorris Garda Station and are appealing to anyone with information to contact them. They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who travelled along the N60 between 10.30pm and 11.15pm last night and may have dashcam footage.
