The Galway County Intermediate semi-final between Dunmore McHales and Cortoon Shamrocks, which was due to throw in this afternoon in Tuam at 2pm has been called off due to a member of the Cortoon team coming in close contact with a suspected Covid-19 case.
Cortoon Shamrocks released the following statement; “One of our players has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid – the player is automatically self isolating and a test is being organised – we will keep everyone updated through Facebook.”
This game is the latest in a series of Galway club games called off this weekend due to Covid-19. Today’s Galway Senior Hurling Semi final between Cappataggle and St. Thomas’ has been postponed due to a positive case of Covid 19 affecting a panel member with the game to be refixed for a later date.
As well as this, the Galway Senior Camogie final between All-Ireland Camogie Champions Sarsfields and Ardrahan was called off due to a positive Covid-19 test. The Junior decider between Bothár na Trá and Sarsfields was also postponed because of the same incident.
As of midnight Friday 18 September, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre had been notified of 15 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in County Galway.
