A South Mayo actor is getting rave reviews for his part in the production “Dating Amber” which has been released in cinemas nationwide.
Ian O’Reilly from Moorehall, Carnacon, shot to fame as Martin Moone’s best friend, Padraic O’Dwyer, in Chris O’Dowd’s TV show, ‘Moone Boy’ when he was just 12-years-old.
Ian’s latest role is in “Dating Amber” which was first released on Amazon last July.
Set in Ireland during the mid-’90s, the comedy film tells the story of two teenage school friends, Eddie and Amber, who decide to stage a relationship in order to stop everyone speculating about their sexuality and in an effort to fit in.
Ian plays the role of Kev – a school friend of Eddie who is played by “Normal People” star Fionn O’Shea.
It’s the latest highlight in an acting career that has gone from strength to strength ever since Ian completed his Leaving Cert in Ballinrobe Community School two years ago.
He played Mal/DJ Animal in the Irish comedy film ‘Metal Heart’ in 2018, featuring alongside Sean Doyle (Fair City), Moe Dunford and Leah McNamara.
From January to March of this year, Ian made his professional theatrical debut in a new production of Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Cripple of Inishmaan’ at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin.
He moved back to Moorehall from Dublin in March following the lockdown which resulted in the cancellation of the premiere of “Dating Amber”.
Instead of walking the red carpet for his first official screening, Ian’s first viewing of the production was in Mayo Movie World, accompanied by his mum.
With “Dating Amber” already nominated for an Irish Film and Television Award for Best Drama 2020, the film’s success will no doubt further raise Ian’s growing profile on the Irish acting scene.
