Almost half of the absences among health staff at Mayo University Hospital during the month of June were due to Covid-19.

The Castlebar hospital had the highest level of Covid-19-related staff absentees in the country during this period, according to the latest HSE Absenteeism Report.

The report reveals that six per cent of all staff at the hospital were off sick that month with 2.9 per cent stating that Covid-19 was the reason they were unable to go to work.

The report showed that the overall number of HSE staff across the country who were out from work with Covid-19 or related symptoms dropped by more than a third in June compared to the previous month.
