A young Mayo woman has gone above and beyond the call of duty in demonstrating her support for a cause close to her heart.

On July 19 last, Jade Neary (18) from Ballina completed a 13,000 ft tandem sky dive to raise money for Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland (YSPI).

Jade is a daughter of Jason and Jill Neary and a past pupil of the Quay NS and St Mary’s Secondary School in Ballina.

She recently obtained a diploma in business management with Kilroy’s College and is currently working in The Loft in Ballina.

With mental health issues on the rise among young people, Jade is very aware of the importance of services like those provided by YSPI which facilitates mental health awareness and suicide prevention programmes to schools and colleges as well as a free text service for at-risk teenagers. .

She has always wanted to do a skydive so when the opportunity arose to do it in aid of YSPI she couldn’t say no.

Jade says she was quite calm about the prospect of jumping from an airplane and describes the experience as a surreal and unforgettable moment and one the best feelings ever.

She has set herself a fundraising goal of €1250 and is hoping the people of Ballina and Mayo will help her reach or surpass this target for YSPI by donating online via
