A Ballina DJ has put together a video capturing the lively spirit of the Ballina in the 1990s. Dermot Rice has compiled a video using archival footage he gathered with the help of fellow DJs John Moyles and Ray Mac that brings a heyday in the Moyside town back to life.
“Many well-known local legends are featured,” said Dermot. “I’m looking forward to everyone in Ballina watching it and keeping an eye out for all the people they recognise.
“There are people in for the day and out for the night, flaming red-haired beauties, kids that take no lip, classy dancers, peaceful protestors, eccentric characters, DJs up for a party, friendly shopkeepers, innocent passersby, trendy teens, a Na Nineties Convoy, troublesome teens, classy ladies, bored kids, unforgettable shops, an improv genius, a local basketball legend, among many, many others.
“Ballina has been put forward for the Today FM Sound Town award and this video goes to show that we were sound before and we’re still sound now. It would be fantastic for Ballina if we could win this competition,” Dermot added.
The video premiered tonight at 9pm and can be watched right here.
