The death has occurred of John (JK) Byrne of Portroyal, Partry, Claremorris, Co Mayo and formerly of Malin, Co Donegal. The deceased was a former Garda Sergeant who passed away peacefully at his residence.
Mr Byrne was a proud member of An Garda Siochana who was stationed in Partry for many years. Just three weeks ago, he joined his Garda colleagues past and present in a minutes silence outside Partry station as a mark of respect to Detective Garda Colm Horkan.
As a member of the Gardai, his duties took him to many different communities in Mayo and Donegal and consequently, he had the rare distinction of having played in three consecutive Mayo County Junior Football Finals with three different clubs in Mayo in the 1950’s, Ballintubber, Crossmolina and Ballyhaunis.
Predeceased by his loving wife Peggie and dear son Cartha. Beloved father to Maureen Byrne McKeon, Tom, John Enda, Dymphna, Conal, Emer Morrin and Orla Carolan, brother to Bridie, Sally, Maire and Nabla. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law, nephews nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
In accordance with goverment and HSE directives relating to public gatherings, funeral mass and burial will be private for family members only.
Removal from his family home takes place on Saturday morning to St. Mary’s church Partry for 11 o clock mass with burial afterwards in Ballyovey cemetery. No flowers and house private please. Donations if desired to Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
