It’s not every day you get to see Tom Hanks, John Travolta and Michael J. Fox on a rugby pitch in Mayo, but these are strange times in which we live at present.
A touch of Hollywood is about to come to Carrowholly (or make that Carrowhollywood!) as Westport Rugby Club gets ready to stage its most unique fundraiser yet with no fewer than four drive-in movies to be screened at its home ground next Saturday and Sunday.
In fact, you are being invited to grab the family, fasten your seatbelt, bring the popcorn and get ready to be entertained, as some of the most popular movies in cinema history are to be shown on a big screen and watched from the comfort of your own car, right where men and women normally are usually performing their own sort of lockdown in a rugby scrum.
Back to the Future 2 and Grease run at 6pm and 9pm respectively on Saturday with The Lion King (the 1994 animation) and Forrest Gump to be screened at 5pm and 8pm respectively on Sunday.
The two-day event is acting as a badly needed fundraiser for Westport Rugby Club.
It’s a Covid-19 friendly event, meaning that guests will arrive in their car, stay in their car and leave in their car, with even a facility to pre-order popcorn and nacho meal deals in advance.
Tickets are €25 and are available at Ticketweb.ie.
