Fr O’Hara Park, the home ground of Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club.

An all-weather pitch in memory of Detective Garda Colm Horkan has been mooted for Charlestown Sarsfields GAA Club.
Club officers held a meeting last week to discuss naming a €300,000 facility, which will include a walkway, after the Charlestown native who lost his life on duty in Castlerea on June 18.
Gda Horkan was a lifelong member of Charlestown Sarsfields and club members are eager to recognise his dedication.

“It’s hoped this will be a community project; there’s a lot of goodwill in the town,” explained one local.
The plan is to build the new facility to the right of the club’s training pitch and erect fencing, lighting and complete landscaping works.
“It will be a facility for the entire community.”
Meanwhile, the Month’s Mind Mass for Gda Horkan will be held on Charlestown’s GAA pitch on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend to accommodate the crowds expected to attend.
