12,400 people in Mayo are this week still receiving the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

New figures from the Department of Social Protection show that almost 500 people in Mayo have been receiving Jobseeker’s Allowance for over ten years.

The Department of Social Protection pays a maximum of €203 a week to people under the Jobseeker’s Allowance Scheme.

In Ireland, more than 134,000 people are getting the payment with nearly 32,200 getting it for at least the past six years and 13,940 for over 10 years.

In Mayo, figures show that 476 people here have been getting the payment for over 10 years. 658 people have been receiving it for six to ten years while 1,083 have been receiving the payment for three to five years.

1,706 people in Mayo have been receiving the payment for less than a year with a further 741 people receiving payments for one to two years.

As of last Monday, 12,400 people received the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Mayo.

670 people have been receiving Jobseekers Allowance in Galway for over 10 years, with that figure standing at 184 in Sligo, 109 in Roscommon and 77 in Leitrim.
