A West Sligo primary school student has received a personal letter of commendation from the President of Ireland for a science project she compiled during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Caoimhe Kelly, who is a 2nd class student of Dromore West Central National School, took great lengths to research and compile her project which was about sloths.
She even contacted the staff of Dublin Zoo.
And the end result was submitted as an impressive PowerPoint presentation.
On being shown the project, President Michael D. Higgins wrote to Caoimhe to tell her how impressed he was by her work.
He wrote that he hoped she was enjoying her homeschooling experience while also finding ways of keeping in contact with her friends and expressed his pride in how Irish children have helped to keep people safe by staying home during the pandemic.
Caoimhe has also been asked to send a copy of her project to Dublin Zoo.
The staff of Dromore West Central School wish to extend congratulations to Caoimhe and the rest of their pupils and to students all over Ireland, their parents and teachers for having engaged so well and worked so hard by way of distance learning since the lockdown was introduced on March 13 last.
