Efforts to modernise and extend a key seafood processing facility in North Mayo have received a significant boost with the news that the Department of Rural and Community Development has awarded a significant grant to help aid the project.
Carr & Sons Seafood Ltd of Croghan, Killala will receive €116,142.54, the department’s minister, Michael Ring TD, has confirmed today.
This funding has been allocated through the Government’s European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Operational Programme for the seafood sector which is supported by the Government and the European Union.
“As we continue to face the challenges presented by COVID 19, this Government will continue to invest in our seafood sector in order to help seafood businesses develop and grow. This announcement is evidence of this,” Minister Ring said. “This major investment in a prominent employer in the Killala area is a great boost for the local economy. There are significant opportunities for quality Irish seafood products and the Government and European Union are supporting ambitious seafood businesses to avail of those opportunities,” he added.
“This investment sends out a strong message to seafood and aquaculture enterprises in Mayo that there are supports available to them should they wish to invest in technology and innovation.”
