Ballina natives, Kevin Donnellan and Patrick Hallinan, have just released the debut track from a new instrumental music project.
The have been active in the local music scene in various guises over the last decade, featuring in groups like Thinkerrs, Doppler and the Boroimhe Project.
Now performing under the name The Third Rehearsal, their first collaboration “Two Moons”, is due for release this August.
This instrumental, alt-folk project features music inspired by some of Co Sligo’s most famous sites.
The concept evolved from the notion that humans hold a shared molecular memory with the land and that music roots mankind to the ancient and mysterious, down into the soul, where humans and earth meet.
Recognising that Sligo resonates with mythical energy, in creating “Two Moons”, Kevin and Patrick brought their instruments to sites like Benbulben, Glencar and Drumcliffe.
The idea was to allow the local energy infuse improvised guitar and violin streams and to follow the natural movement of their sound in such a way as to weave the land into the music of the album.
“Nothing I was Thinking” is the opening song from the production. Self-produced and self-recorded, it was released on Friday, May 15 last with a video shot by Fionn Rogers at the Devil’s Chimney, Sligo.
