Ballina’s Rejoice Gospel Choir is leading the charge locally to support the Pieta charitable organisation on the eve of what would have been its biggest annual fundraiser – the Darkness Into Light Walk.
This hugely successful event is held in towns throughout Ireland and beyond each May to raise funds for the charity which helps those at risk of or bereaved by suicide.
In recent years Rejoice Gospel Choir has voluntarily sang for participants in Ballina’s annual Darkness Into Light event. The singers are devastated that the event cannot go ahead as planned early tomorrow morning due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a social media post this evening Rejoice shared a video montage of images of their Darkness Into Light performances over the years featuring a recording of them singing “The Storm is Passing Over”.
Instead of walking or running from darkness into light early tomorrow morning Pieta and Rejoice are appealing to people in Mayo and all over the country to watch the sunrise at 5.30am (while observing social distancing) and to share selfies and photographs of the moment with messages of hope for its service users and staff.
The public is also urged to make a donation to the charity online via https://www.darknessintolight.ie/sunrise-appeal
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating financial impact on Pieta at a time when the need for the support it provides has never been greater but the charity assures that its free counselling will continue to be available in Ballina and around the country albeit via phone-based therapy due to the Covid-19 lockdown
If you would like to support Pieta please consider doing the Sunrise challenge at 5.30am tomorrow morning and donating online.
Below the beautiful video and music by Rejoice Gospel Choir sums up how special this charity is.
