Water supply will be severely impacted in the centre of Ballina this evening due to a major leak.
Irish Water and Mayo Co Council says up to 500 houses and businesses have been impacted in Pearse Street, Humbert Street, Dillon Terrace, Castle Road, Nally Street, the areas surrounding Beleek, Bachelors Walk, Arbuckle Row and Emmett Street.
Work is underway to repair the leak on a main located at the Dunnes roundabout in Ballina and the resulting water outage will take place from 6pm to approximately 2am tonight.
Traffic diversions/road closures will also be in place between the Humbert Street/Dunnes Stores Junction, Pearse Street/Market Square junction and Lower Pearse Street/Dillon Terrace junction to facilitate the works.
Ger Greally, Irish Water, said: “While repairing this leak, we are taking the opportunity to install critical valves at this location which will minimise the impact of any future outages and assist in better management of the network. This type of work would be very difficult to carry out during the day due to traffic.”
Irish Water understands the inconvenience when emergency works needs to be carried out and thanks customers for their patience while work to restore normal supply to impacted customers is ongoing.
