Mayo University Hospital is extremely busy, Friday 14 February, according to a statement released by the HSE. The HSE has said, “there are currently very limited beds available throughout the hospital as a significant number of ill patients have been admitted recently. In addition, the hospital has an infection control measure in place due to a number of cases of Norovirus (vomiting bug) and this is making the situation more challenging.”
They added that across the hospital, efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge and they are getting support from the community to support the more complex discharges.
“We would like to remind the public that we encourage them to attend the Emergency Department only in the case of real emergencies and they should contact their GP or GP Out-of-Hours service in the first instance,” the statement added.
