Mayo County Council has enacted its flood emergency plan in response to a Met Éireann Status Yellow wind and rain warning.
The council confirmed that arrangements are being put in place across areas deemed most vulnerable to the conditions.
Met Éireann’s warning will be in place from 3pm today (Friday) until 11am on Saturday across Mayo, Galway, Donegal and Kerry.
The meteorologist service predicts wind speeds of 50-65 km/hr with gusts of up to 110 km/hr, to be felt most along coastlines and hills. High seas and gales could give rise to coastal flooding.
On social media, Met Éireann said about nationwide weather: “We are entering a period of very unsettled weather. Further warnings for strong winds and rainfall are likely to be issued in the coming days.”
