Mayo Chamber Choir will make its first public performance under the leadership of new musical director, Felicity McElroy, when it stages its annual and much-loved Sing Noel concert in Ballina Arts Centre on Thursday evening next, November 28, at 8pm.
Felicity has been working hard with the all-female chamber choir since the retirement of former musical director Niamh O’Kelly and they are excited to showcase a whole new festive repertoire for the Sing Noel concert that will include a light and entertaining mix of Christmas classics, featuring a number of special arrangements and compositions.
A co-founder of the music department at Coláiste Éanna in Rathfarnham and director of music at St Philomena’s Church in Palmerstown, Dublin, Felicity recently relocated to Mayo and has since been appointed music teacher at Sancta Maria College in Louisburgh.
She and the choir will be accompanied on piano for the evening by Felicity’s husband, Alekasandr Nisse.
Aleksandr is of Russian, French and German background and is a renowned organist and composer who has given many recitals around Europe.
The Sing Noel concert will also feature the children’s choir of Centre Stage Vocal Academy as special guests.
Tickets cost €12 or €8 with concession and can be booked online via ballinaartscentre.com or on 096 73593. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul.
The Mayo Chamber Choir can be seen in concert again on December 7 when they perform in Ballintubber Abbey alongside the amazing Westport Children’s Choir and the Westport Youth Choir.
