Mayo Co Council says it is not in a position to assist a Ballina resident who is being terrorised by anti-social behaviour.

Cllr John O’Hara requested Mayo Co Council to provide CCTV to deter the anti social behaviour.

The situation was highlighted at a local authority meeting in the Ballina Municipal District on Wednesday, October 16 last by Cllr John O’Hara who revealed that gardai have so far been unable to catch the thugs plaguing the resident in a private house in Mount Assumpta.

He said the house has been the subject of graffiti. Fire lighters have also been pushed through the letter box and glue poured into the lock on the front door so that it could not be opened.

Cllr O’Hara said the resident was living in fear and has been calling him for assistance in the last month,

Neighbours have also begun to report the matter in recent days.

The councillor wondered whether the council could arrange to provide a CCTV camera in the vicinity of the house but was advised that it was a matter for the gardai to deal with and not the local authority.
