The west Sligo seaside resort of Enniscrone is already a top attraction for locals and tourists seeking to get away from the hum-drum of everyday life for a taste of life on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Now it’s targeting a new market – dogs.
The village will this weekend host a novel new event – “The Wild Atlantic Wag” – a dog-friendly festival designed to attract more visitors to the town in this off-peak season.
Easkey-based Karen O’Connor who runs Tails and Trails K9 Adventures – a dog training and behaviour consultancy that specialises in canine fitness – is the founder of this event and is thrilled that the tourism sector of Enniscrone is happy to roll out the carpet for all those interested in attending this weekend including their four-legged friends.
Even the local Ocean Sands Hotel and Atlantic Park caravan park are making dog-friendly accommodation available for those interested in making a weekend of it.
The Wild Atlantic Way will run over Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29.
Highlights will include SUP with your Pup – stand-up paddle boaring for dogs and their owners – in Enniscrone Harbour at 3pm on Saturday, September 28 and the Bound with your Hound fun run on Enniscrone beach at 11am on Sunday, September 29.
Runners and walkers welcome and medals will be awarded to human and canine participants. Register to enter via www.runireland.com
A dog show in aid of the North West Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will also take place from 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
