A Belmullet housing development is among 30 nationwide that have been shortlisted for the prestigious Allianz Community Housing Awards 2019.
An Fraoach – an Irish Wheelchair Association IWA) development at Logmore in Belmullet – is one of the developments shortlisted for the award’s Housing for People with Disabilities category, the Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) has revealed.
Located near the Blacksod Bay shoreline and on the edge of Belmullet town, the houses are designed to support people with physical disabilities to continue to live independently, with the aid of assistive technology, formal 24/7 supports and accessible design.
Tenancies are long term and geared at helping people relocate from rural areas across the Erris peninsula.
An Fraoch’s central location in Belmullet means tenants have increased access to local services, work, social and education opportunities – all of which helps to reduce their social isolation.
The winners of the 2019 Allianz Community Housing Awards will be announced on October 10 next.
