Crossmolina during a previous flood

A level 2 flood alert has been issued for Mayo for the rest of today and tomorrow with a level 3 alert in place for the flood prone Crossmolina (pictured above during a previous flood).

Mayo has just been placed on official Level 2 flood alert with a Level 3 warning issued for the flood-prone north Mayo town of Crossmolina in respect of heavy rainfall and high water levels on the River Deel.

The alerts will remain in place throughout the rest of today, Friday, August 30 and on Saturday, August 31 and Mayo Co Council is urging the public to remain vigilant throughout that period and to prepare appropriately for rainfall levels of between 30 and 50mm.

“There is a possibility that weather warnings can be extended or deteriorated conditions last longer than anticipated,” a council statement reads.

“Once the weather warning has passed, please remain vigilant and exercise caution as the effects of the weather can last longer.”

Further updates will be issued by the council throughout the weekend.
