The ESB sent us this fascinating video of the Oweninny wind farm site in north Mayo as completion of the first phase of the development drew to a close in recent weeks.

Blades on the 29 installed turbines should start to turn any day now and thereafter work on the second phase of the wind farm will commence with all 61 turbines expected to be installed and operational by next October.

The €160 million development is being delivered as a joint venture between the ESB and Bord na Mona (operating as Oweninny Power Ltd).

It is set on a site that was formerly used by Bord na Mona to harvest peat to fuel the former power station at Bellacorick from the early 1960s to 2005.
