Pauline Moran won three gold medals

Athletics: The National Masters Indoors Track and Field Championships took place in Athlone’s
AIT Arena on Sunday last, March 10. As usual, the event had a very full all-day timetable with
keen and exciting competition in all categories. It proved a great experience for all competitors
at the excellent arena.
Mayo AC had thirteen members entered over a range of different age categories. They
competed in various track and field events and came home with a total of fifteen individual
medals.
Once again, Mags Glavey (W65) and Pauline Moran (W60), with three golds each in their three
races, spearheaded the Mayo AC success.
In their W50 category, Angela O’Connor (silver) and Ann Murray (bronze) claimed two medals
each. Patrick Moran (M60) won bronze in the 400 metres with a personal best time of
69.7seconds and also won a bronze in the high jump.
Marcella McDonnell (W50) also came home with bronze in her 400m race.
Cormac Kearney took bronze and ran a new PB in a competitive W40 60m sprint. Martin Peyton
won bronze in WFD (weight for distance).
John Walkin was just outside the medals, finishing fourth in the 60m sprint. Declan Owens
competed in a senior weight for distance throw event and was also just outside the medals on
this occasion.
Congratulations to the medals winners and well done to all thirteen club members, including
newcomers to national indoors competition Noelle Kilduff , Breege Staunton and Tony O’Malley.
