The people of Mayo are being encouraged to participate in the 5th annual National Trail Day which takes place this Sunday, October 7.
Ms. Anna Connor, Walking Development Officer with Mayo Co Council and Mayo Sports Partnership Co-ordinator Charlie Lambert said the event is a great opportunity to highlight and showcases the various high quality walking and cycling trails now available throughout the county.
Many Mayo groups and organizations have organized events to mark the occasion including: the Clogher 8km waymarked bog loop walk that commences from Clogher Heritage Centre at 11am on October 7 (further details are available from Tom McLoughlin at 094 936089); the scenic Suifinn guided hill walk, commencing from Ballycastle Community Hall at 11am (further details are available from Gretta Byrne at 086 4080550); Land of the Giants forest loop walk in Claremorris departs from the front entrance of Clare Lake adjacent to the children’s playground on the Ballinrobe Rd at 3pm (further details are available from Sheila Hunt 094 9377777); the Burrishoole Walks Committee hosts a Hike, Bike or Trike event in the foothills of the Nephin Beg range and along the Achill spur of the Great Western Greenway, commencing from Derradda Community Centre near Newport at 12 noon.
