If you go down to Belleek Woods in Ballina next month you’ll be in for a big fright.

Ballina Chamber of Commerce has just announced details of the third annual Samhain Abhainn Festival which takes place in Ballina from October 27-31.

This arts based Halloween festival is run by Ballina Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Ballina Arts Centre and with the support of Ballina Town Council.

Chamber CEO Sandra Cribben told the Western People that his year’s event will be better than ever with a number of local businesses staging great attractions to compliment the official festival programme including a play hour in Tumble Jungle; a children’s Halloween disco at the Downhill House Hotel and  fancy dress Halloween Ball at Belleek Castle.

Ballina Arts Centre will play a crucial part in the festival again this year with a great line-up of events and activities including a bilingual production for small children, a monster making workshop and much more.

The scary walks in Belleek Woods (on October 28,29 and 30) will once again represent the signature event of Samhain Abhainn. Mayo Co Council’s Arts Squad and the Ballina Pantomime Group will be involved again in the staging of this hugely popular scare fest in the atmospheric forest on the banks of the Moy. This year the Ballina Stephenites Club has also got on board in helping to organise the event and proceeds from the night will go to the Club.

More details in next week’s Western People.

Foras na Gaeilge is again backing the 2012 Samhainn Abhainn Festival to encourage us all to brush up on the cúpla focal.
